Does anyone know how IBM or other software companies price their software? What is typical cost?

Typical cost of what? An OS is a far different thing from a DB(R)M from a programming language etc. Different complexities etc.

How does IBM price its software license? Is it on MIPS or per CPU irrespective of CPU power. What happens if there are multiple LPARs or CPUs. I was keen to know what strategies do the companies have for pricing software.

I'm not in the purchasing area of IT, but my guess would be that IBM is the appropriate place to ask that question. If an IBM customer does happen to know, I don't think it would be appropriate for them to release that information to the general public. Just my guess, since I've never been involved in the sales or purchase area.
