We have approximately 20000 JCL jobs running in production and there is a requirement to understand and document functionality of each of this job. Manually doing this is a gigantic task. Can anyone suggest a tool based approach for this? |

SEEC is used to analyse COBOL pgms and not JCLs AFAIK. |

jiwaniakbar,
Do you have comments (After the job card) illustrating the functionality of each job?
If yes, then we can think of stripping those comments in the JCL and appending into a single file and then FTP the file into a text document. This can be done thru REXX.

Vivek,
You are assuming that the comments are correct and up to date.
That is not necessarily trus.
To be sure you have to look at each Job.
And that returns you to the original question.
I don't know either product mentioned, so i can't comment on those. |

jiwaniakbar,
If you have a job diagram of the jobs, then you can get the info from there. |

You might have a look at file679 on http://www.cbttape.org, an edit macro by Carlos Aguilera which converts JCL to a format which can be imported as CSV-file into VISIO. It can't be too difficult to incorporate this edit macro into a batch process looping over all your 20000 members. _________________ Stefan

Yes, there is a solution that will document all your jobs: flowcharting, cross-references, scheduling dependencies and many more. It is indeed a gignatik task to perform this manually and it would take a a life time. Your solution is to implement the E-GEN MAP. product. All your jobs will be documented within a couple of days. Since the process is fully automated, your documentation will remain up-to-date from day 1. No need to allocate human resources to maintain the product. E-GEN MAP is available at www.zelena.com or feel free to contact me.
