Currently when we search for something we get a lot of hits. The search results are displayed based on the sorted date. So the most recent post comes first. But many times, we post links to other threads as solutions. Then we have threads with absolutely no conclusion at all. So eventually we end up somewhere in the middle of the result list for the solution (after a lot of clicks Smile).

What I suggest is that we have a thread rating for each thread. So when one searches for something, the search results would be displayed based on the sorted thread rating. So, the thread with the highest rating comes first. This will save a lot of time for the person doing the search and may also encourage some members over here to go for the search utility.

Question is, who rates the thread ? This can be done either by the moderator or the members themselves (final rating will be the average of all the ratings in such a case).

Just a suggestion. Ideas and brickbats welcome. Smile

I have not used rating systems. Would like to know from people who has used such forums if it really helps or not.

Diba.

How can we have a rating when the poster who posted the question does not post a feedback for the solutions provided? Most people tend to forget to provide feedback to members who tried to help them. Sad

Posting a feedback not only encourages other people to answer the questions but will also help in future searches.

There are so many posts in this forum which I rate as best but many of them have zero feedback from the questioner.

Kolusu, I agree with you that without any feedback from the questioner it becomes very difficult to rate it. I guess the best way to rate a thread would be to rate it based on the content in the thread. (But again that raises another debate on the correctness of the solution)
very well, I guess we'll continue as it is.
