|
|
We are planning to create a VSAM KSDS file of length greater than 32K. Is there any way to take the backup of this this VSAM file into Sequential file on DASD or tape.
I tried 3.2 option but errored with out of range
I tried SORT, IDCAMS and other utility but was not able to achieve this.
Any thoughts please...
Thanks,

Why do you believe you need records this large? Sounds like improper design. . .
Have you tried ADRDSSU? Have you talked with your storage management people to learn what additional tools might be available on your system? _________________ All the best,

Sometimes these length records appear in scheduling software such as OPC. (TWS).
My usual approach is to do a VSAM to VSAM copy and then back up the copy of the VSAM file. As suggested above, ADRDSSU (DFdss) and talk to your storage people. _________________ If it's true that we are here to help others,

Thanks for the reply.
Our currently master file is VSAM-KSDS which is about 25K length due to the addition of other customer information the length of proposed file is going past 32K limit.
That's the reason I wanted to know if it was feasible to take the backup of the newly proposed master VSAM file using any utilities.
We do have ADRDSSU, so do you think that I can use this utility to take the backup of this big VSAM file.
Thanks,

After the backup is created, make sure it can be reloaded into a test vsam file and used. It is a rather horrible discovery to learn that the backups created are not usable. . .
Until a backup has been reloaded and the data successfully used, all that exists is some media with questionable content. . . _________________ All the best,

Thanks everyone for your input.
Well, I used ADRDSSU's DUMP command to store the VSAM file and used the RESTORE command to restore the VSAM dataset back. It is working perfectly...
Thanks,
