A loop will bring the whole cics region down. But since it is the region ( probably the test) the impact will not be felt across and the data integrity is protected to a certain extent. I dont think the whole of the system goes down.
Strange to record my views in posts that dates back 7 years. But cant help it
I wonder does the latest versions of cics takes care of this or not? any idea people? _________________ Rgds,

As mentioned, the reasons for CICS are efficient resource use for online transaction processing. Quick in, do some database work and get out. It is a highly optimized address space with many I/O connections (terminals, for example). It is capable of thousands of transactions per second. etc, etc ... I don't know what the original reason for writing it was, but that is its claim to fame.
The interviewer who asked for a comparison of CICS and Rexx was not asking for the interviewee to compare CICS and Rexx. He was asking for a blank stare followed by the answer "CICS is an environment for transaction processing, Rexx is a programming language frequently used for scripting and single user tools. Why would you ask me such a stupid question?". OK, maybe a rephrased version of that.
By the way, if Rexx or any other foreground program causes others to be locked out because of nothing more than a loop, that is the sign of a poorly tuned system, but not the fault of the program or the language in which it is written. Looping foreground programs should be tossed into what we used to call "whale @#&*" priority, so called because it "whale @#&*" sinks, eventually exists underneath everything else and never sees the light of day. _________________ New members are encouraged to read the How To Ask Questions The Smart Way FAQ at http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html. |

Thanks all for still contributing to this topic.
semigeezer,
Thanks for mentioning about improper tuning. If I see that system administrator again then I will have to settle this score. He had complained to higher authorities of being irresponsible (which may be true as I was trying to beat him).
Also I noticed that you have joined a month after this topic was last discussed so we missed your input until Balaji restarted the discussion.
