Do we have to write JCL to check tape status or there has other ways?
if need jcl, can someone supply an sample. Device like 0DA3 ?

Status means the tape is availlable or not for using.

Which tape management product do you use at your shop.

They all come with pre defined reports to tell you information like that, and much much more.

Can you issue commands like D U,,,0DA3,1 and view the results in SDSF? The response will show if the device is open(O), allocated(A), offline(F), etc.
