sindhu,

Are you a Storage Admin? If you so you can define a Dataclass for the datasets created by the user.

Check this link

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr/BOOKS/DGT2S230/CCONTENTS?DT=20040629121430

Hope this helps...

Cheers

Before doing the steps you need to understand the concepts. Normally, you do not want to allocate volumes to a particular dataset. The concept is storage groups - pools of disks for certain functions - like a pool for permanent datasets and a pool for work, sort, and temporary datasets, etc. Usually you do not want to define a particular dataset in the ACS but try to define dataclasses and have general definitions on hand of some kind of identification. We use the low level qualifier to identify the dataclass, and the dataclass usually determines the type of storage group and management class of the dataset. There are exceptions, but each exception makes your SMS more confusing.

sindhu,

Did you even bother to look at the manual link which I posted? Twisted Evil Read chapter 10 in that manual and it will answer all your queries.

It definitely sounds like you are a beginner. You should not be messing with SMS as a beginner. SMS/ACS is a complex theme and you need to have well established and thought through concepts about data naming conventions and SMS conventions. If you do not, you will create and have havock. Wrongly used or defined management classes can cause a loss of datasets!!!!!!!! This is usually a major project involving your operations and systems group, at a minimum, to set up SMS/ACS standards.
