Vedha,

You cannot browse the contents of the vsam file using 3.4. You need an utility to browse it. ex: DITTO , FILE-AID.

However you can copy the vsam cluster using IDCAMS REPRO , IEBGENER or Sort utlity to a sequential file and browse the seq file.

Hope this helps...

Cheers

Kolusu,

Thanks. Can you let me know the link for TSO/ISPF commands associated with VSAM. I may be wrong but i guess there are few commands like IDS..which are associated with VSAM.

Thanks in advance.

Vedha,
There is no standard utility to do that. I can understand your problem. I also faced this problem at one training shop where we did not have fileaid. It is frustating to write a idcams job everytime you need to browse a file. To overcome that problem, I wrote a REXX routine which lets you browse a VSAM file. No file stuff, the vsam records are displayed right on the screen(like fileaid). I cannot give you the code here because I gave (-Smile..we all need money...right) it to xephon.com for publication and its their copyright material now.
But nothing great about the routine. It was essentially built around the TSO REPRO command. You can try writing a similar routine. Look up the REXX reference for TSO REPRO and you can do it easily. Let me know if you face any problems.

HTH....Regards,
Manas

REVIEW on the CBT tape can browse a vsam file. It's rudimentary but better than nothing.
