|
|
Hi,
Is there any significance for the version number of a GDG? I mean is there any way we can increment the version only, making the generation name remaining as same?
For example, there is a GDG version as follows
MYGDG.TEST.G0010V00
Is it possible to increase only the version ? i.e, I need to get
MYGDG.TEST.G0010V01
cheers

Rajnish,
MYGDG.TEST.G0010V00 is the base ,and as far as I know there is no way you can increment the base. _________________ Venkataramana

When you create MYGDG.TEST.G0010V01 it replaces the original GV10 file (which gets uncataloged). AFAIK, you must spell out the new generation/version name in the JCL (no + or - references).

Thanks for the reply..
VenkataRamana, the GDG name which I mentioned is not the base.
Base is MYGDG.TEST and MYGDG.TEST.G0010V00 is the 10th generation.
My doubt is whether there any importance of Version in a GDG ?
Using a JCL, can we get MYGDG.TEST.G0010V01, MYGDG.TEST.G0010V02 etc from the base?
cheers

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. There can only be one tenth generation. Version 01 replaces version 00, version 02 would replace version 01, etc.
If you recall all generations, you'll get:
MYGDG.TEST.G0010V02
MYGDG.TEST.G0009V00
MYGDG.TEST.G0008V00
MYGDG.TEST.G0007V00
:
etc
