|
|
I am comparing 2 files using the ISPF SuperCE utility. I am using the compare type as File.
The result displays some values for HASH-SUM.
Can someone please tell me the meaning of HASH-SUM ? What information/conclusion can I derive from HASH-SUM ? _________________ Regards,

I pressed HELP and was able to get the following:
"Processing speed is due, mainly, to the compacting of the original line or word unit into a short 24 bit hash compare value." |

and what does this 24 bit hash compare value suggests ?
Can I interpret/conclude anything thing from this HASH-SUM ?
I am sorry if I am sounding stupid, but I didn't understand it. _________________ Regards,

SUPERC calculates the hash value for each line then compares these values to see if it is different rather than comparing the lines themselves.
I ignore this value. |

Hello,
I am facing the similar problem..I am comparing the 2 huge files using SUPERC and results are as shown below
COMPARE SUMMARY LISTING (FILE COMPARE)
DIFF SAME N-BYTES O-BYTES N-LINES O-LINES N-HASH-SUM O-HASH-SUM
** ?172400 ?172400 ?232152 ?232152 FB69EFDB F2A062C5
PROCESS OPTIONS USED: NONE
Here New file bytes and old file bytes and lines are same but the Hash summary is different. So what should I interpret from this...whether my compare results are good or no good???

Hello,
Well sorry...I have one more question why is that N/O-Bytes and N/O-Lines are showing '?' at the begining. Whether the SUPERC didn't reach the end of file??
Thanx in advance..

Lal,
The hash sum values (N-HASH-SUM, O-HASH-SUM) are 32-bit numeric representations of the contents of the new and old data sets, respectively. The values shown in these fields provide a general indication of whether two data sets on two different systems are different. If the values are different, the two data sets are different. If the values are the same, the two data sets may be identical, but not necessarily.
SuperC puts a "?" when working with large files. Check this link which explains how superc works with large files.

Hope this helps...
Cheers
