ISPF Option 6 should be the best available option. What error message are you getting ? _________________ Regards,

Beswar,
You can try FTP'ing the dataset to the PC.
Programmer1,
The file Transfer program is a part of emulators (rumba, extra...) . Not every shop has the emulators ! So if you don't have an emulator then you cannot transfer the files
Hope this helps...
Cheers

Unfortunately, most shops prohibit FTP access to the mainframe entirely, and usually do not allow an FTP daemon to run on the desktop. I would use the ISPF download function with the ISPF Client/Server on the workstation. |

My way: install Workstation Agent (free) and use ISPF 3.7. Superfast & simple.
Cheers

There are couple of other utilities also. For eg. MFA Drag and Drop (From Mircro Focus), WS-FTP(www.ipswitch.com) etc. |

Kolusu, if you choose option 3.7, and first select option 1 "ISPF C/S download ISPF C/S component", you will be prompted to download a small piece of code that is a desktop client (filename is WSA.EXE).
Once you have WSA.EXE installed on your desktop, go ahead and start it.
With the agent active, you can use ISPF services to upload or download files. Go back to option 3.7 and select option 1 again. Now, for the download method, select option 2. ISPF C/S (requires workstation connection) as well as the appropriate workstation type. The next panel will ask if you wish to start a workstation connection. Select option 1. Yes, and you will be prompted for the TCP/IP address of the workstation. Once you enter the address and press Enter, the agent will issue a pop-up message, prompting you to accept or deny the connection. Select Yes, and you can now upload and download files via option 2 Data Set Download/upload ISPF library, partitioned, or seq data set.
I use this feature to create an HTML document on the mainframe, then download it to the workstation and invoke IE to view it. |

I think 3.7 is nothing more as an ISPF GUI for the command FILEXFER.
It has also the same weakness in some points like e.g. it doesn't accept the long DOS filenames.
Another point: the Workstation Agent must be installed & started before using WSCON (standard source ist the PDS sys1.ispf.sispgui, member corresponds the client opearting system; ISPGUINX = Windows NT/XP).
