Difference between Char and Varchar,
Why VARCHAR is declaring at the 49 level in Cobol

This was an interview question and I wrote on behalf of my friend.

Still... why Varchar is declared at 49 level..

It is just an IBM standard to use 49 level for a VARCHAR DB2 column in cobol
