Sricons123,

DFSORT's ICETOOL is a versatile DFSORT utility that allows you to perform multiple operations on one or more data sets in a single job step. DFSORT's ICETOOL is a fully documented, fully supported feature of DFSORT. It has been a part of DFSORT since DFSORT Release 11.1 which became available in February, 1991.

ICETOOL uses the capabilities of DFSORT to perform the operations you request, calling DFSORT for each operation with the particular DFSORT control statements and options required.

The thirteen ICETOOL operators, each of which can be used one or more times in a single run, allow you to perform a variety of functions.

Full documentation on ICETOOL is included in the DFSORT publications. For example, the "DFSORT Application Programming Guide" has Chapter 6, "Using ICETOOL".

Here's a link to Chapter 6 "Using ICETOOL" in that book:

http://publibz.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr_OS390/BOOKS/ICE1CA00/6.0?DT=20031124143823

I would strongly recommend that you check this Mini-user guide of ICETOOL

http://www.storage.ibm.com/software/sort/mvs/icetool/pdf/sorttool.pdf

Hope this helps...

Cheers

kolusu

Well, Kolusu took the words right out of my mouth. Smile

I'll just add that in particular, if you're interested in things that can only be done with DFSORT's ICETOOL and not with DFSORT directly, see the descriptions of the following operators: COUNT, DEFAULTS, OCCUR, RANGE, SELECT, SPLICE and VERIFY. Many of the things you can do with these ICETOOL operators cannot be done directly with DFSORT. In addition, the DISPLAY and STATS operators make it easier to do things you can do directly with DFSORT.

If you're not familiar with DFSORT or DFSORT's ICETOOL, I'd suggest going through "DFSORT: Getting Started". It's an excellent tutorial, with lots of examples, that will show you how to use DFSORT, DFSORT's ICETOOL and DFSORT Symbols. You can access it online at:
