Is there a quick way to identify the existence of these Utilities on ones m/f . Where do these reside ?
For ex if ones looking for AMBLIST , FILEAID etc ...
Basically , without having to Submit a JCL or wihout executing a REXX (which calls the Util) and then realising the site or m/f doesnt have the utility , is there a more convenient way ? |

One way would be to see if your site has the LOCATE or WHEREIS commands enabled, such as LOCATE IEBGENER, which pinpoint the load library where the program in question resides.
Another option is documentation. Most shops have master lists available of all installed and/or supported products.
Third, what's wrong with just calling the program from a TSO session, i.e:
CALL *(AMBLIST)
and seeing what happens? |

Vini,
The sample PGM GIMSMP of SMP/E will give you the details of every software installed in your shop, but the problem is getting it to run.
One simple trick I use is code the jcl with the utility and simply do a JCL CHECK on the jcl. If the utility exists then you will not get any error messages. If the utility does not exist then I will get an error message
Code: |
E1 8 DSS20006E MEMBER 'KOLUSU' WAS NOT FOUND.
E2 8 DSS20105E 'TXXXXXA SAMPJOB': STEP WOULD ABEND,
CODE 'S806'.
|
Hope this helps...
Cheers

Superk , TSO CALL *(AMBLIST) does work in this case ,got the following response
**** D I A G N O S T I C D I R E C T O R Y ****
AMB121I INVALID CONTROL STATEMENT -- PROCESSING TERMINATES
This confirms that the Util exists as the Message starts with 'AMB...'. The only hitch was that this message was being issued by the system repeatedly, and had to be terminated which is not a big issue though.
However when I gave TSO CALL *(FILEAID) the response was unexpected : Had screenful of Jobs being submitted repeatedly , then I had to have my session terminated , as even Cntrl-Shift-A did not help abort the action as in the previous case |

There are two problems with this:
1/ Not all products are SMP/E packaged. Probably about 25% of the products my section maintains are non-SMP/E.
2/ Many SMP/E packaged products are or can be installed in their own product specific CSI, completely seperate from MVS etc. To interrogate them with GIMSMP you would need to know the product CSI name, but if you knew that then you would know that the product was installed, and wouldn't need to use GIMSMP anyhow! |

If the products (load modules or clists/exec) are accessible to your ISPF session, ISRDDN will search for them for you. See the HELP, especially Member, Search, and Load |

semigeezer, TSO HELP SEARCH ..indicated that it aids in searching for RACF Profiles, TSO HELP MEMBER .... was unrecognised and TSO HELP LOAD did not seem relevant |

Do TSO ISRDDN from the command line. It is a utility that is built into ISPF which has a powerful search capability. _________________ My opinions are exactly that. |
