hi,

if I define a Commarea of 20k but only fill it out will 5k of data, what's the size of the data passed from program A to program B, please?

will be transferred 20k of data with the final 15k filled with blanks (or whatever)?

or, will only be transferred the 5k of data actually filled?

thanks.

Have you read the manual - that is what it is there for. In particular:

7.3.2.1 COMMAREA

You really need to read up on this theme. There are very important issues here and if you do not understand the concepts you can cause storage violations and possibly pull your entire CICS system down!
