Used to be, IIRC, that you could issue a VARY UUUU,ONLINE and then issue a VARY UUU,CONSOLE,AUTH=ALL,ROUT=ALL
for a 327X type device.
This command does not seem to work anymore if there is not an entry in the CONSOLXX member.
Is there a way to dynamically create a console? If not, is there a way to switch the CONSOLXX member currently in use?
I am asking because we recently lost MSTCONS, so I defined console terminals that are dial-intoable on an alternate OSA channel. But they are not in CONSOLXX, so I am trying to find a way to activate them dynamically if need be.

Don't know of a way to update CONSOLxx on the fly. If all consoles are lost, you can use the HMC for a console.
1. Find the Daily Tasks list on the HMC console
2. Drag an ICON for the LPAR with the failed console to "Operating System Messages"
3. The console window will open on HMC
4. Enter command VARY CN(*),ACTIVATE to enable console access
5. After the other console terminal is fixed, issue command VARY CN(xxxxxxx),ONLINE
Are you adding the backup consoles to CONSOLxx at next IPL? _________________ Regards,
