What is actually a segment???????gone thru docs but not yet clear with the concept???Please can some one put an eg to expain the segment that would be appreciatable????????

Perhaps you didn't read enough - this link is to one of pages in one of the IMS manuals reached via the 'quick manuals' link at the top of the page.

There is another manual which may explain better but there is not a link to it - you have to search the IBM site.
