Click on the Quick Manuals link at the top of this page, then the DB2 V8 Utility Guide and Reference link, then review the description for RUNSTATS. That's a good place to start.

Martin,

RUNSTATS is used to collect information about the characteristics of data in table spaces, tables etc.

You can start you readings from here

Runstat collects the statistics like number of records in a table, repeating data, index rows and it's characteristics. that means it is now known to db2 about the data/index present for that tablespace. When you rebind after runstat, the access path is rebult again according to current statistics. hence better performance for the queries..

regards,
Prakash.
