I have to check a field for NULL values on a flat file.

The first program is written in PL1 and they are trapping this using LOW(2)--i doubt whether this will trap the NULL values.

The second program where I have to trap this is written in cobol, I like to know how to trap the NULL values in cobol.

Is NULL is like LOW-VALUES??

Please clarify.

null is x'00'
LOW(2) returns 2 bytes of nulls i.e. x'0000'
LOW-VALUES, I guess, returns the same as LOW but it has been 10 years since I did COBOL. If I am wrong then someone will put you right.
