What??

You mean how much data was written on a tape?

Some tape management systems have an inquiry function to show the block count. Blocks may not be full or records may be variable length, so the total_recs=blks*recs_per_block calculation is approximate.

Otherwise, read the tape into a copy utility and count the recs.

LISTCAT entry(' your tape dataset name') will give you the VOLUME on which the dataset resides.
