|
|
Hi,
Our client has lot of datasets stored in DASD and TAPEs. Now the DASD rates are cheaper than the TAPE. Hence he wants to move some of these TAPE into DASD.
How to approach this scenario?. How to identify the TAPE datasets that can be moved into DASD?
Is there a guideline stating that if a file is of size X bytes, it should be stored in TAPE?
Thanks for your help.
Thanks,
Selva. _________________ --------------------------------------------------------

selva21,
As a rule of thumb any Dataset whose total byte count is greater than 2GIG(2,147,483,647) is a good candidate for Tapes

1) DASD rates are cheaper than tape!?!?!? How can this be?
2) It should be about access requirements.
DASD for files needing fast or frequent access.
TAPE for files seldom accessed or very large files. _________________ Regards,

Really Surprising!!
I use to get SB37 for a Dataset which is very large to be placed on DASD, which I moved to tape. |

Talk to your storage management people as migration media is purely site specific.
I have worked at shops where there was no DASD migration, and in one where there was no tape migration.
Also, it might be a good idea to start your own thread rather than tag onto an unrelated topic. _________________ If it's true that we are here to help others,
