|
|
Hi,
I have copied a resource ( Mapset) from the existing group to the same group with a different name and then I have installed that new mapset using CEDA INSTALL command. After I installed I inquired using CEMT and I am able to see that resource, which is enabled. After then, I have deleted that New mapset definition using CEDA delete and then I inquired using CEMT, Surprisingly I am still able to see that resource with status enabled. Could you please let me know why am I still seeing that new mapset even though I have deleted from CSD file. I truly appreciate your comments in here. Will this be disappeared after the CICS region is shut down and up again??.. Please confirm
Thanks

After Inquired that new mapset thru CEMT, I typed 'D' infornt of the details and the new mapset was discarded.
But the concept that I don't understand is why should I again do the step above mentioned. Why is it not deleted as soon as I have deleted the entry from CSD file. Please clarify??
Thank You |

Short answer. The CSD is actually only used when you install something or when you have a CICS cold or initial start. This information is written to a RSD dataset. Normally CICS will be warm started and the information will be taken from the RSD, not the CSD! That is why you can delete the CSD entry and have no influence on the RSD, the discard removes the entry from the RSD. This issue is important to understand - you may make changes to your CSD and never have them activated until the next cold/initial start of CICS, and this could be months later and nobody knows what they have changed since the last cold/initial . This is why we cold/initial start our CICS once a week to make sure that we find out about problems within a reasonable time limit. 8) |

ar_karthick,
RSD stands for Restart Data Set which is a VSAM KSDS used only during a CICS emergency restart. The RSD temporarily holds the backout information read from the CICS system log. This allows CICS to be restored to a stable state and to be restarted following an abrupt termination.
Hope this helps...
Cheers
