1. What are the differences between using ICEMAN or SORT?

2. How do I know the version of DFSORT and which PTF is installed in our shop without asking System Programmer? Say, May I use DEFAULT in ICETOOL to figure it out?

Just to add a few words to what was said in the link Kolusu gave:

You can determine the "version" of DFSORT (z/OS DFSORT V1R5 or DFSORT R14) by looking at the ICE000I message. You can't use DEFAULTS to determine the PTF level. You can determine the latest functional PTF installed based on what functions are available. (Note that this will not help if you're trying to find out the latest non-functional PTF levels.)
