I have a cluster with RECSZ(71 9800 )

If I define data component as CISZ(8192) and then gives LISTCAT ,
it shows me VSAM attributes as follows

AVGLRECL--------------71 CISIZE-----------10240
MAXLRECL------------9800
======

does IDCAMS overrides 8192 parameter .
I know that one should give CISZ sice more than that of RECSZ.

manual says upto 8k , CI size must be 512 bytes and beyond that it should be multiple of 2k.

are there any more constraints ? Can anybody explain RECSZ and CISZ relations for optimum utilization of space?

RECSIZE 9800 is larger than your CISZ of 8192 - vsam has adjusted to the 'next valid CISZ' . If you really want a CISZ of 8192 you must use spanned records but be aware of all the rules when using spanned.
