Hi,

Can anyone please suggest me about how encryption is done
in Mainframes?
We may have to encrypt the files we send to banks and we need to provide them the keys to decrypt them and vice versa.
I have heard that PGP provides some encryption tools, but not sure how to
use them and the pros and cons.

Pls let me know if you have experience in such an area or you can suggest some readings.

Thanks in Advance.
Ayush

In case you want to use vendor software (rather than write your own), and depending on a platform, links below might be useful:

MegaCryption ( http://www.megacryption.cc ) - Mainframe
GnuPGP( http://directory.fsf.org/gnuPG.html ) - non-Mainframe

Also, here is general PGP description:

This is an issue you should take up with your auditors and management. In the financial, or any other industry there may be specific tools you need to use, you probably need to meet some government standards for security and privacy and there may be many other legal considerations (export laws, etc). MVS does provide some encryption too. For example, Comm Server provides Secure FTP (not to be confused with sftp frorm ssh) which, I believe, uses many of the most common high encryption standards. RACF gets involved with keyrings, certificates and a whole host of other stuff I'll never understand Smile

Kolusu, i will read the stuff but It'll take sometime to comprehend the in and outs and install it at my shop.
Semigeezer, can you tell more about secure FTP? My manager suggested me to work on it.Are there any related articles or docs?

Regards
Ayush
