PTF UK90007 for z/OS DFSORT V1R5 and PTF UK90006 for DFSORT R14 (April, 2006) provide important enhancements to DFSORT and DFSORT's ICETOOL for extracting variable position/length fields (e.g. CSV, delimited fields, keyword separated fields, etc) into fixed parsed fields (PARSE, %nn); justifying and squeezing data (JFY, SQZ); comparing and inserting past and future date constants (DATEn-r, DATEn+r); testing for numerics and non-numerics (NUM); displaying hexadecimal floating-point values as integers (FL); splitting files contiguously (SPLIT1R); suppressing page ejects in reports (BLKCCH1, BLKCCH2, BLKCCT1); using symbols for output columns (sym:); using system symbols (e.g. &SYSPLEX) in symbol constants (S'string'); reformatting records before selecting or splicing (INREC, SELECT, SPLICE); sorting and merging with larger PD and ZD fields; easier migration from other sort products, and more.

For complete details on these new features, see my "User Guide for DFSORT PTFs UK90007 and UK90006 (sortpeug)" paper at:

Congrats Frank,

I just cannot test them but the Parse function looks promising.

Thanks, Kolusu. A lot of the new functions are in response to questions on this board. I'll be posting solutions using the new functions to "old" questions in the next week or so.

Frank,

I've just finish to read the new user's guide for PTF UK90007.
I would bet you will come up with INREC+SPLICE, date comparaisons and left/right justifications. But for the PARSE and the others ...
For my part i think that PARSE includes many sub features and will be able to answer many previous threads.

I would be able to do my own test this weekend.

Alain
PS: I appreciate the present. My birthday, it's monday !

Alain,

Happy Birthday! Of course, I timed the PTF to come out just before your birthday (pretty clever of me, considering I didn't even know it was your birthday until now). 8)

I already have a list of many previous threads that would benefit from PARSE, JFY, SQZ, SPLIT1R, DATEn-r, DATEn+r, etc. So I'll be posting examples for some of those threads (not sure how far back I'll go).

I think PARSE, JFY (justify) and SQZ (squeeze) in particular will be very useful. I've come up with dozens of ways to use them while testing.

The PTF was just "released" yesterday, so I would expect it to be available by tomorrow. If you're going to apply the PTF and try the new functions this weekend, you may be the first one to do so outside of IBM.

Enjoy!

Thanks a lot to reduce my programming code and save my time

Thanks,
Hari
