When we edit with HILITE turned on in our PLI programs, we do NOT get any highlighting on the EXEC SQL statements. Yet when we switch over to a Cobol program (same session, same 3270 program, same ISPF profile) the EXEC SQL is nicely highlighted in dark blue.

Investigation shows that the PLI Hilite list of keywords does NOT include "EXEC", but the Cobol list does.

I can't see a reason why PLI would not have EXEC included but Cobol does.

I'm wondering if this is a site error here or can anyone confirm this is the same at their site?

I don't see it here. It's probably been 10 years now, but I don't remember anything about that for PL/I. It is probably only supported for COBOL. You can add EXEC to the keyword list and see if that enables it, but I doubt it will.

I couldn't see a way to add to the list through my screen options, but I'm a regular application programmer, not MVS support.

Do you know where I can point the support guy to add the keyword?

Thanks, I'll let them know, and post back the result. Not sure how long that'll take, hopefully it won't need an IPL !

You can assemble the module into your own ISPLLIB and restart ISPF.

. The keyword list did increment by one (to 549) , so I believe I'm picking up the new load.

Is this something we could raise an alert with IBM about?
ie.
1) shouldn't EXEC be included, and
2) shouldn't it work when it is included?

No. There is no support for it then. In fact, the documentation does not even mention the capability in COBOL and there are no APARs refering to it either. I doubt it was ever written for PL/I. The main focus back in those days was on COBOL. You could open a requirement for new function, but I have no idea how the current development group would react. They recently did HILITE for SuperC listings, so you never know.
