I have experience with mainframe relational databases, but recently started using IMS - it is very different - what are the basic concepts around IMS compared with say Datacom or DB2? Can anyone explain the concept of a 'segment' to me? I keep seeing SSA and BMP in source, what does this refer to? Thanks.

I would also recommend to buy the books written by Steve Eckols. He has 2 books one for IMS DB and other for IMS DC. I have both of them and they are very useful.
