Kindly let anyone tell me the exact differnce between sysid and applid in cics.
But the definition tells that sysid returns 4 character region name
and applid returns 8 character region name..
I got the same region name in the both sysid and applid.
So i want to know in which occasion these two region names differs .or these two values remains same for every sessions.

I am new to cics..

smile_rajeev,

SYSID : This is your system identifier specified in the SYSIDNT system initialization parameter.

APPLID: This is the VTAM application identifier for the CICS system, as specified in the APPLID system initialization parameter. This name, 1 through 8 characters, identifies the CICS region in the VTAM network. It must be unique if running in a sysplex. It must match the name field specified in the APPL statement of the VTAM VBUILD TYPE=APPL definition.

Usually most shops have the SYSID to be different from APPLID.

ex:
Code:

SYSID=ST50 APPLID=IYCSST50

However your shop seems to have them the same

Hope this helps..

Cheers

And just to add to what Kolusu has already put in so elegantly, the SYSID defined on the SYSIDNT parameter is used as the identifier of the MVS system where the CICS TS is hosted for distributed connections. (Over TCP/IP).
You can have the same SYSID but a number of different APPLIDs for CICS regions hosted on the same MVS subsystem and listening on the same TCP port for outside connections.

HTH...Thanks,
Manas
