Hi,
Is there anyway to access an IMS database on Mainframes using a .NET program.
If yes, please let me know how this can be done. Are there any tools available to achieve this?

Thanks,
Gemini

GeminiK_80,

I don't have any experience using .net. But check this link which discusses about accessing IMS via web

Hope this helps...

Cheers

We were able to access IMS via IMS Connect using .NET. You may also be able to access it via DB2 Stored procedures or APPC but we don't allow this for performance reasons.

Thanks Kolusu and Bithead.

Bithead, can you please elaborate how IMS database can be accessed from .NET using IMS Connect.
How will be the performance if we setup online screens in .NET to browse/update the IMS database.
I am not experianced in .NET hence these questions.

Thanks in advance.

Gemini,

I did not write the code but we used native sockets to send a datastream. There is a sample Java application that can be downloaded from the IBM web site that can be used as a model.

The performance of IMS connect is close to that of IMS DC but there may be some lag time when sending the datastream to and from the mainframe. We actually went with a Java solution so I have no production end-to-end data to share with you. The Java application is a 3-tier solution that still has lag time but within acceptable limits.
