Satish,
Please post your queries in lower case. Posting in uppercase is like shouting.
1. Look at the volume parameter in 3.4 listing. The volume parameter will have *VSAM* for vsam datasets.
2. A simple browse of the cluster using file-aid/ditto or listcat on the dataset will tell you if the dataset has data
Hope this helps...
Cheers

Just by looking at the dataset name, we cannot interpret anything. _________________ Regards,

satish,
Define "looking at". are you talking about looking at 3.4 listing on the mainframe or just a random name ?

normally there are naming standards to identify if a file is vsam/nonvsam ...other methods
1.use 3.4 find data and indx components
2.do a listcat ..
this seems like some interview question .. |
