Hai,

I have created a PDS by a name called ABX3954.UNIT.JCL using 3.2 option. Now when i give option 3.4 i get the PDS listed out for me on the screen.

What my understanding is the dataset is cataloged that is why we are able to see that dataset. If i delete the PDS ,i will not be abe to see using option 3.4 & i am understanding it to be uncataloged.is my assumption correct.

Then what is the difference between a dataset being CATALOGED ,UNCATALOGED ,DELETED & KEPT

Bye

Catalogs are used to retain information about datasets, such as volume(s), device type, etc. If you simply UNCATALOG a dataset, you can still use 3.4 but you must supply the volume information.

Also, a dataset can be deleted but not uncataloged. Then you would see an entry on 3.4 but the file would be "not found" if you try to access it.
