I am trying to delete a GDG generation which does not have a corresponding base. I am using the IDCAMS delete statement. When i run this thru JCLPREP scan, it gives me an error message
0JCP0546E GDG index not built for 'GDGname.G0012V00'

I also tried IEFBR14 and get the same message.

Is it possible to delete a GDG generation, which does not have a base? If yes, how?

Is it also possible to delete the index and still have generations of that GDG?

I dunno how this production GDG ended up in that state....

Thanks
Vineet

I guess you can have a generation(uncatalogued) if the gdgbase is created with NOSCRATCH parameter.

I guess your generation falls into that category as the , the rolled off generation data set is disassociated with its generation data group.

Check this link which discusses about deleting an uncatalogued dataset

Check this link which discusses about listing all the uncatalogued datasets.

Hope this helps..
