|
|
I keep having space issues (B37 abends) on a step in one of my jobs.
It uses a dataset with a disp=shr, that also includes a space allocation.
Is the space allocation used with a shared dataset actually used? Since the file exists, wouldn't it ignore the the space allocation? I cannot find an answer to this question.
//SORTOUT DD DSN=mydataset ,
// DISP=SHR,
// UNIT=(SYSDA,9),
// SPACE=(CYL,(250,350),RLSE),
// DCB=RECFM=FB |

As per my understanding, giving a space parameter for disp=shr will have no impact on the space allocation. _________________ Regards,

If your dataset was originally allocated with zero secondary space amt, you can add a secondary amt by including the SPACE parameter on the DD. _________________ Regards,

Refer to my post above:
The primary amt is ignored because the dataset already has space allocated. The secondary amt will be used if the datasets needs to take another extent. _________________ Regards,

I have a output file for which the primary and secondry qtys are already allocated .
Consider the output file needs to be expanded.
If i give the space parameter will it override the allocated space ???????
I gone thru this topic still the Answer for this not clear.
can i extend the space for the file dynamically in jcl or not???????
pls clarify |

Not really ! Unless the dataset is sms managed and is defined with an extended attribute.
Hope this helps...
Cheers

If you read my answers you'll see that the new secondary type and quantity will be used when specified on the DD with DISP=SHR and the dataset needs another extent. Am I wasting my keystrokes? _________________ Regards,
