I am sorry but I am not clear on how disabling the edit feature is going to prevent people like Macmillan.

Regards,
Manas

Manas,

I am aware of the fact that we cannot stop parasites like mcmillan. With the ability of editing their own posts , people are taking undue advantage of the people who really spend the time answering the questions.

Let us take the example of mcmillan itself. He was here begging for answers for all the basic questions. Later on when he launched his site, he came back and edited all the posts so that he can look good and pose as an experienced programmer. I had to upload all his questions from the backup I had. I had to weed through a huge file to get to his posts.

So I disabled the edit feature so that we will have the exact image of the posters. If some one accidentally posts something irrelevant, then they can request the moderators or site admin to remove the contents. But the removal of contents is totally on the discretion of the moderators.

Even though I may sound harsh , I am trying to avoid any further incidents which makes me loose my temper.

I have a lot of patience when it comes to answering questions. I spend a lot of time trying to help people and some idiots like mcmillan are just cashing it.

Being able to edit posts has always been a mixed blessing anyhow. Even without malicious intent, going back and changing a post after people have replied can easily cause the rest of the topic no longer make sense.

If the BB software supports it however, allowing people to edit a post if it is theirs and it is currently the last post in the topic (i.e. has not been replied to) would be useful and shouldn't allow any abuse. But I don't suppose this is supported/worth the effort?

Anyhow, it's no big deal. We'll just have to make sure we use PREVIEW all the time.

Ravi,

I will try if I can enable the edit feature for senior members.

Thanks
