SMS is installed on my System. Does that mean all the datasets which I create in online or batch mode are SMS managed Datasets. Can I create
a dataset which will not be managed by SMS ?
Further more , how can I uncatalog any of the dataset created by me?

That is a site specific question. Some sites have some volumes that are not SMS managed and are accessible to users. Others force all user data sets to SMS volumes. You can find SMS and non-SMS volumes with a tool like TASID but the owners of the non-SMS volumes may not want you to put anything on them.

And for the purposes of this discussion, SMS managed datasets can not be uncataloged. With few exceptions, there isn't much reason to have uncataloged data sets these days. If an uncataloged data set does exist on an SMS volume, it usually causes all sorts of problems.

as an aside, we ran a scan a few months ago against our sms managed volumes to to the surprise of our dasd folks there were some uncataloged datasets that existed. I think they used ismf to delete them.

The SMS administrator at your site will use criteria such as dsname, DSORG, unit, RETPD, etc. to trigger whether or not to make the dataset SMS controlled.
