Hi,
I have the following steps.
Code:

//STEP1    EXEC PGM=IEFBR14
//DELDD    DD DSN=XXXXXXX.TEST.DCB1,
//            DISP=(MOD,DELETE),
//            SPACE=(TRK,0),
//            UNIT=SYSDA,
//            DCB=(LRECL=70,RECFM=FB,BLKSIZE=29750)
//*
//STEP2    EXEC PGM=SORT
//SYSIN    DD *
 OPTION COPY
/*
//SORTIN   DD *
 A SINGLE RECORD
/*
//SORTOUT  DD DSN=XXXXXXX.TEST.DCB2,
//            DISP=(,CATLG,DELETE),
//            SPACE=(TRK,1),
//            UNIT=SYSDA,
//            DCB=*.STEP1.DELDD
//SYSOUT   DD SYSOUT=*

After these steps are over, the dataset XXXXXXX.TEST.DCB2 is cataloged with the DCB of XXXXXXX.TEST.DCB1.

But, after STEP1 is complete, the dataset XXXXXXX.TEST.DCB1 must not exist. Then, how does XXXXXXX.TEST.DCB2 get the DCB? A delete step followed by cataloging step is perhaps a universal procedure practised everywhere. If the dataset is NOT gone after the delete step then why do the cataloging steps not fail?

What am I missing here? The JCL manual just speaks about the syntax for referbacks. (Page 137 in OS/390 MVS JCL User ’s Guide)

Nagesh,
Referback to a previous step DDname copies DCB information from DCB Parameter , but has got nothing to do with disposition of the dataset.

Hope this helps...

Cheers

Yes, Kolusu. I got the information. I was about to post it here and have it "closed".

Thanks anyway.
