Hi,
Is it possible for omegamon to watch/monitor for IEC161I message and send an alert to operations to fix it.
when we try to open online, some datasets fails to open because it is contended/locked by another process and nobody realize it until a user reports there is a problem with the online screen, we are trying to adjust the schedules to avoid these locks, but it is good to monitor these message.
Thanks

You can have message processing exit to process the message that requires operator intervention, but how does the operator know what action needs to be taken for each return code?
Also imagine this scenario, there are 4-5 batch jobs executing and all of them require the same vsam dataset. Now only 1 job can get an exclusive hold of it and the other 4 jobs will issue IEC161I message. Now do you cancel the job that has the exclusive hold or the jobs seeking read access? Would you STOP the CICS transaction or Batch jobs or TSO jobs (File-manager/aid Ditto Editing) .
May be you need to spend time on setting the SHAREOPTIONS correctly or Implement RLS

Hi Kolusu,
Thanks for the kind response.

Is it message processing facility (MPF) - IBM ? or something else, please advise.

The operator will try opening the file in CICS - CEMT S FILE(DDNAME) OPEN
after the lock is released, maybe 5 to 10 minutes.
We are taking Disaster recovery backup, it will not take more than 10 minutes for a dataset, so the lock period might be 10 minutes at max.
No other batch will be running during that period.
System program responded stating, they can handle it using MVS Automation, I don't know what it is.
Thanks

Magesh_J,
Yes if your shop has Tivoli

Well if the SYSPROG says they can handle it, then let him. He probably is going to use the MPF processing. _________________ Kolusu
