Hi,

Is there any way to sort data when the LRECL of the file is > 4092 bytes. When I was going thro' the doc in QW it said for CH, SORT supports a max of 4092 bytes. My input file is of LRECL 4350 and I want to sort on entire LRECL. How do I do this.

PS: I have Syncsort,

Thanks,
Phantom

Phantom,

4092 bytes is the limitation for sorting character data. However there is a way to overcome that , but right now I am swamped with work , so I will post a solution when I get a chance.

Thanks

Does this work now with ICETOOL .. I have a file with LRECL as 15000 and was looking for options to eliminate duplicates using SORT utility.

I got a document "User Guide for DFSORT PTFs UK90007 and UK90006" where it says under "Higher Ending Position for Sum Fields"

The maximum position for the end of a sum field has been raised to 32752.

Does this work for removing duplicates?

The limit for the total length of the key is still 4K.

Various restrictions on where a field can start/end have been changed, but restrictions on the total length of the key have not been changed. For example:

Code:

   SORT FIELDS=(26001,4000,CH,A)

is valid, but:

Code:

   SORT FIELDS=(26001,5000,CH,A)

is not valid.
