I just learned about the eclipse platform and how IBM has quite a product line (Rational Developer) that transfers z/OS development activities to it.
Are there any open source alternatives ?
I've searched the forum (and googled the net) and there doesn't seem to be anything current. |

Hard to believe. . .
What might you have searched for? I used IBM rational developer and got 5 million hits. I suspect the very first one might be what you want:
Click on Rational App Developer of follow this link

Thank you for the reply papadi - Hard to believe indeed - I was asking for an alternative to the IBM offering.
I'm assuming that they are offering a product for sale, I would like an Open Source alternative. |

Depending on just how much you want to do, you can even run a mainframe on your pc for free (look at Hercules).
If you post something more specific, someone will probably have a suggestion. _________________ All the best,

Editing, file management, submitting jcl to batch on the Eclipse platform.
That's what development activities are.
Thanks for the tip on Hercules. Have been running it for years. There is also a zCobol that runs on Windows or Linux. |

It's unlikely you'll find such alternative.
But you can try to use RSE. In fact, RDz uses it (z/OS implementation) and if you find separate plugins then you'll be able to do file browsing and JCL submitting.
I submit JCLs and work with files by means of ftp invoked via ant build files. |

I was toying with the idea of writing my own plugins... since there doesn't appear to be anything available. |
