In order to reduce the DASD usage, we coded DATACLAS=GDSCMPRS option for the backup GDG in the JCL, the DASD consumption has come down but the CPU consumption went up, any idea what causing the problem and how to correct the same. Please help.

Vinodch,

If I have take an educated guess , since your DASD usage has come down, I believe that the DATACLAS=GDSCMPRS is compressing your data. Compression does cost extra CPU time.

Hi Kolusu

Thanks for the updates, just curious to know the DATACLAS option used to optimize the DASD consumption but in turn it consumes more CPU time, please let know the real purpose of the DATACLAS option.

You will find the information in the JCL manual. You may find more in the JCL user guide and some storage manuals - I only peeked at the JCL Reference manual

The very best people to ask would be the storage people at your site, as DATACLAS can be used for many things, but each and everyone of them may be site specific.

It is your storage people that have defined the SMS DATACLAS constructs and ACS routines.
