I've read somewhere that there is now a way to have VTOC information in the listcat, but I cannot find it on the internet (probably I am using the wrong keywords in my search). Could somebody please guide me to the correct IBM publication.
Thanks

zatlas,

AFAIK there are no changes made to LISTCAT COMMAND. LISTCAT ALL will reference the catalog and the VVDS. If you want the complete VTOC information use IDCAMS DCOLLECT or IEHLIST

Thank you
I've just located the DCOLLECT command. I've just got mixed up Smile

Now my question is how to list all the HLQ in my master catalog?
IS that
LISTCAT LEVEL ALL
or some other syntax?
Thanks

zatlas,

If you want ALL the HLQ's from the catalog then you are better off using Catalog Search Interface (CSI). Read about it here

THank you
As a lowly consultant, there is no chance that they will allow me to run anything but IDCAMS... Sad

They may - if they actually want the work done and have to pay less hours for it . . .

I suspect that single idcams execution will not give what you want.

Time to work with your management/client and get permission to run what you need. Remind them this would be read-only - there would be no update of any kind to merely look at entries. . .

zatlas,

You can do the following.

1. Do a listcat of your Userid and get the IN-CAT name which specifies the master/user catalog.
2. Now run the LISTCAT CATALOG('mcat name from step1') UCAT ALL and you will get all the HLQ's under ASSOCIATIONS as ALIAS

3. You may need to run step2 more than once depending on how many mcats you have.

Alternatively you can put all 3 steps in a batch job and then strip the desired info using utilities.

If you just want alias info from the master catalog then what's wrong with listcat alias? Just be aware that not every hlq will be in the master catalog as aliases. For example SYS1 probably will not show up as an alias.
