|
|
We have HSM running on our Sysprogplex with around 930 3490 Tapes listed in the TTOC.
Of this listing there are a number of volumes showing 000 % and EMPTY or 001-009% and FULL yet these are not getting picked up by the daily RECYCLE.
When I issue a RECYCLE against a specific volume I get the following.
For an empty tape I get :
ARC0445I VOLUME 238958 CANNOT BE RECYCLED, REASON= 0016,
EXPLANATION: TAPE CONTAINS NO DATA
And for a lower % tape I get :
ARC0445I VOLUME 850079 CANNOT BE RECYCLED, REASON= 0008,
EXPLANATION: TTOC RECORD IS INCOMPLETE
Quickref explains the error but provides no way of resolving it and I cannot find anything on the IBM site.
This is only happening on our SYSPROG plex, not in production or development so it must be something that was missed in Setup but I cannot figure it out.
Does anyone have any bright ideas ? |

Suggest that you perform an AUDIT MEDIACONTROLS on the volumes.
This usually cleans up any errors and allows the tapes to be eligible for recycle.
If the error persists and that you are certain that the tape is a HSM tape, you may be able to perform RECYCLE using the FORCE parameter.
Usually this is caused by system crashes or an IPL without proper shutdown, so can be expected on a sandpit system. _________________ If it's true that we are here to help others,

Thanks for the reply. I've run every kind of audit available.
Media controls tryies to suggest a fix but the fix fails.
I'm convinced they are legit HSM carts as they are listed in TTOC.
I'm not so much worried about the 000 percent ones as a DELVOL will get rid of.
I'm more worried about the carts with 001+ % on them that also will not recycle, presumably there is data on these. |

These might be tapes with part of a dataset on them or a tape in a set of tapes. Do a F HSM,LIST TTOC and get the following report:
Code: |
VOLSER UNIT VOL REUSE VALID PCT VOL RACF PREV SUCC
NAME TYPE CAPACITY BLKS VALID STATUS VOL VOL
B14290 3490 SPILL 00079900 00001112 002 FULL YES B14286 *NONE*
B14303 3490 SPILL 00079900 00072715 091 FULL YES *NONE* B14306
|
As you see here the B14290 volume only has 2% on it but it is part of a tape set, there are previous tapes that are not eligible for the recycle. |

A good point from warp --- Unless the tape is the first volume in a connected chain, it will be invalid for recycle, you must specify the first volser in the chain.
MEDIACONTROLS has always fixed TTOC errors for me. Can you post the suggested fix and the failure messages. _________________ If it's true that we are here to help others,
