I need to find a way to get error information into a cobol PGM.

EZZ9830I QA885BC FTP failed - Cmd = 7(cd) Reply = n/a EX FIX RC = 0012

I need the error 7 (or 27 or whatever the error is) as well as the fixed RC (12 in this case.)

Is there reserved words or a call or parm for this?

Thanks!

To see error messages, you can

1)review the whole SYSLOG on some regular schedule
2)capture the JOBLOG (or SYSOUTs) from individual jobs via SAR or batch SDSF or other method

Does this help?

You could write the SYSOUT from the ftp step to a dataset, and then read that dataset as input in your COBOL pgm. You'd have to play around with the DCB attributes. The RECFM could be VB or FB, and the LRECL will most likely be 121 or 133.
