Hi,

We are doing migration to LE.

For LE environment change, We are used to initialize all work variables in the program, copy books, DCLGENs manually or by tools .. But I would like to know the way to initialize the variables in DCLGEN ..( Host variables ).

Though those Host and Indicator variables initialized now for LE environment, later but when we are changing the table structures, we need to request the DBA to create a new DCLGEN .. In such cases, we can't ask DBA to initialize those variables in the new DCLGEN, we need to take care of them !! Assume that if you use small tables then it is good .. But if the structure is very big and if you need to initialize each time, then it will be real pain.

Is there any option to initialize while generating the host variables.

Cheers,
Subra

What do you mean INITIALIZE? To spaces and zeros or something else?
COBOL gives you poerful intitialize statement at group level if you use replacing clause. If you want to initialize to specific values ..... why? If you absolutely must, put dummy rows in your tbl and select - again why?
