Hi,

Some people say it is much fast and efficient to write programs
thru Telon and Cool:Gen than Cobol. Is it true?.
In that case why these tools are not widely used?.

Thanks in advance ,
Ram

not that familiar with Cool:GEN, but I know Telon can be a struggle. Have yet to
see anything that could actually take the place of writing your own logic.

If you use Telon to create simple enquiry-only programs it may be useful, for anything else it is a total piece of crap. At a former client they were/are in the process of phasing it out by converting the code to normal CICS. Programs usually end up a being half the size (or less) of the original generated one and they are more readable.

If we learn to write proper Telon programs they will be wonderful. You can not even compare CICS with it. Many commonly used logics are handled by Telon. You will reduce atleast 50 % of your work in Telon rather than CICS.

to each his own. Telon might be faster for simplistic applications, but I've worked on some pretty complex systems that I doubt Telon could handle. Neutral
