How are you currently merging the files? A sample would help. |

And has the empty file been opened and closed. If it was crrated by IEFBR14 or simply a JCL allocation but has not otherwise been accessed it will have no End Of File (EOF) marker and this will lead to an error. Not only 'how are you merging your files' but also - what is your error SPECIFICALLY? _________________ Utility and Program control cards are NOT, repeat NOT, JCL. |

Nic Clouston,
IEFBR14 sets the EOF MARK for SMS managed datasets. Here is the link to a discussion about it

Hi Kolusu
Thanks for the link - that was way back when I was out of work too!
So, what I must do is find out if they rewrote IEFBR14 to do more than just end or whether there is something in SMS which goes and puts the EOF on the disk. A little task for tomorrow. _________________ Utility and Program control cards are NOT, repeat NOT, JCL. |

Nic Clouston,
IEFBR14 hasn't changed a bit. SMS does the EOF marking.
