want the difference between base cluster and data component

base cluster is the name of vsam
what is data component? what it contain?

Tilak,

VSAM cluster contains two components Data Component and Index Component.

The data component is the part of a VSAM data set, alternate index, or catalog that contains the data records.

Using the index component, VSAM is able to randomly retrieve a record from the data component when a request is made for a record with a certain key. The key determines the record

What Shekar said is true for a KSDS (Keyed Sequential Data Set), but most other VSAM cluster types (e.g., ESDS-Entry Sequenced Data Set) have only a data component. An ESDS is essentially a VSAM sequential dataset.
