vino_dh,
Avg Recordsize? It depends on your data. Since your key is 5 bytes long , you have minimum length of 6( 2 offset) and max length of 55. So if you need the average then you need to calculate the total length of all records and divide it by the number of records.
Hope this helps...
Cheers

Hi,
are you sure about your answer. after creating cluster we will pass the data. before creating cluster we wont know how many records we are going to enter.
can u clear my doubt.
Thanx |

vinu_dh,
If you read my answer carefully once again you will see what I meant. The AVG record size depends on your data.

Hi,
I know kolusu is a genius. But what I felt is since he is concentrating on complicated coding he never get a chance to concentrate on this kind of minor doubt. Thanx for your immediate reply.
Thanx |

vino,
Are you referring to the AVGREC parameter used in allocating files? _________________ Regards,

hmm your first Post refers to VSAM cluster definition and I assumed that your question was related to the RECORDSIZE(average maximum) parameter
Now you say it is the JCL AVGREC parameter?

AVGREC is used to estimate SPACE requirements and is not directly related to logical records in the file. Perhaps you can tell us what you will do with the average record size once you know what it is? _________________ Regards,
