Hi all,

I have a PDS and need to have 734 members in it and I am using this PDS for a SUPERCE comparison.

But, suddenly when I was moving the members into this PDS I was told NO SPACE IN DIRECTORY. So, I created a new PDS with greater SPACE and DIRECTORY BLOCKS and it worked fine.

But, my question is that ...Is there any other utility other than IEBGENER which will increase the SPACE and size of an already cataloged dataset. Can it be done through a JCL.

Please let me know if there are many other utilities to do this.

Thanks in advance,
Kousik

Hi,
There is no way to increase the space of a dataset once it allocated.

Shocked Is it mean that IEBGENER can increase the space of a already cataloged dataset ? i doubt on this..

Check the cbt tape for pds85. It will let you add directory blocks to an existing dataset.

Or use PDSE and enjoy unlimited directory blocks.

sivaraj,

Using IEBGENER I can copy the members of the existing PDS to a new PDS with increased space and then I can rename it to the old one.

I meant this possibility.

Thanks,
kousik.

I think you mean IEBCOPY, which is for PDSs. IEBGENER is generally used to copy sequential datasets.

To be clear, there is no standard IBM utility which can change the space allocation and especially hte number of directory blocks of an existing dataset. There are several free and licensed software products which can do some of that.

but in general, if your dataset is too small, you need to copy it to a new name with larger allocation values, and then delete the original and rename the copy.

Hi Black,

I am sorry for that, it is IEBCOPY... I did a mistake.

I was always thinking of sequential datasets and forgot the fact that I was concerned about PDSs.

Thanks,
kousik

than increasing the space, u just compress the dataset and copy......might be work.
